What made these mikes so good. I was looking into getting another one and on ebay they are getting some really good prices for these mikes. Is there a mike that is made to day that can match to the sound and quality of these old mikes?

In my opinion what made these mikes so good was the mic elements used in them and the overall quality in the construction. They have nice heavy diecast bases that can take a lot of abuse and very good contacts inside them.

One thing to watch out for on these mikes is the little plastic tray that holds the 9 volt battery. After all of these years it may become brittle and crack/break. You can fabricate a tray for these out of some thin sheet brass(insulated on the backside of course).

Also the 9 volt battery clip sholud be upgraded to a more modern design.Otherwise these are good base microphones.

I don't prefer the +2 the +3 is really the "classic" the +2 was kind of run of the mill in IMHO

Walsh, I always thought the +2 had the classic sound. Can you tell me why the 3 is better ?

Walsh, I will agree that the +3 is a superior mike as it has a speech compression circuit instead of just an amplifier.

I was only answering the question as asked about the +2.

And as always those were just my opinions.

Yeah when buying an old mic, its best to get one like the turner +3's speech compressor, the difference between that and the +2's amplifier are incredible.

Does the +3 have the sound of the 2? And while I have been searching there are so many different models of the +3 <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> Which one would you reccommend?

Yeah, I actually think the sound is better on the +3 as compared to the +2 The base models of the Turner +3 are the"Turner +3" and the "Turner +3b" The regular +3 is grey the +3b came along a little while later and it has the "b" after it because it is black and has a "crinkle" texure to it, as I understand it that is the only difference between the two mics, basically its just a matter of which you like and which you think would look better and fit your style, either way you will be amazed!
