I found an old Turner Plus Three base micrphone for $30.00. I have read somewhere that these are supposed be pretty decent little microphones. Has anybody had any experience with these? How do they compare to an Astatic T-UG8 lollipop? I want to run the better of the two on my little HR-2510. Any info?

Well if that Turner works well, you will like the way it sounds on the 2510 much better. It is a deeper tone microphone and sounds really good on sideband. The Astatic "Lollipop" microphones are a bit tinny and pick up eveything in the house. Just my views however.

I have heard they are nice mic.s also. I have a +3 on the way right now and will try it out on my new Lincoln. I will be comparing the hand mic,an unamplified D104 and the Turner and post my opinion when done.

I used to have a Turner Black mic I cant remember the model number. It was black with 2 slides one on each side of the base on the top by where the nec comes out of the base. And goes up into a 2x2 square white wind screen over the mike. It worked awesome. I used to switch back and forth between that and a Silver Eagle d104 and most people told me the turner sounded MUCH better. But to each his own. My was run on a Cobra 2000 P/T'ed

Well I wired it up and I've been told the Turner sounds quite a bit better. I really like the fact that it has the knob on top and a lock down lever. I think I'll just keep the lollipop for a spare. Now if I could just get more modulation out of that little radio I'd be happy!

Well I'm finally getting around to posting the results on the Turner+3. I hooked one up to the Yaesu and WOW what an improvement. I also just wired one up to my Lincoln this morning and then talked with PE143-Duck in Wisconsin. He helped me get it adjusted right, then I switched over to the Yaesu with the +3 and he said that the Yaesu sounded really good but the Lincoln sounded MUCH better than the Yaesu. I was told by my tech (Old#7) that I would really like the sound of the +3/Lincoln combination, Well I loved the Lincoln already and now I'm totaly NUTS about it ! The turner+3 desk mic. is the best mic. I've owned. I feel it would be a GREAT addition to any radio,I just wish you could still buy them new. Just my 2 cents worth.

I used a +2 and a Super Sidekick on an old Comstat 23 back in the mid 70's...Liked the +2 better. As 383 said, Turner mics have more presence in modulation, but they too will pick up any sound in the room (fans, etc.) if cranked up too far, and make you sound like you're transmitting from the engine room of an aircraft carrier. But when adjusted right, they are excellent. I'm thinking about trying to con a friend into selling me one of his. 73's.

Of three mics that I have (amplified D-104, Astatic Echomaster 2000, Turner +3 desk) the Turner sounds the best.
