Turning off the GPS on a VX-8DR

I believe I already know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway... I have a VX-8DR with the GPS antenna (I have both attachments, the shoulder mic and the direct mount). Is there any way to turn the GPS function off, but KEEP the GPS antenna attached? The GPS is certainly a nice feature, but uses alot of battery (before anyone suggests it, I already have the 1800 mAh battery). I rarely NEED the GPS, but would like to leave the antenna attached just in case. As I said, I don't think there's a way, but figured I'd ask anyway.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
