Does anyone know if this marine radio can be converted or modified to use on 2 meter? Has been several of these on ebay with a reasonable buy it now price. Working on my Tech licencse and was just wondering if these could be made into a 2 meter rig.

Given enough money or time, I'm sure it can be converted. However, I'm not sure it is worth it.

IIRC, the MC1010 is a PLL controlled radio (no custom microprocessor), and the counters are pre-set for the marine frequencies (and pairs of frequencies). Therefore, simply changing the loop mixing crystal(s) and retuning the VCO et. al. such that the thing would tx/rx in the 2 meter frequency range would probably work, but you'd be stuck with funky frequency schemes similar to the marine band.

I would recommend trying something something else.
