I got this radio at a flea market for about $20, it covers a band around 156MHZ VHF, I hooked it up, and got local weather and static on the rest of the about 48 channels, I looked it up it's made in Australia, If I cant do any anything with it, I was thinking about modifying it for a different band, it has about 6 crystals in it , one in the 23MHZ range and 2 in the 49MHZ range and 1 in th 21MHZ range and one in the 12mhz range and one has no frequency markings....

Any Ideas?

Yes it is a transceiver , a 2 meter would be nice since I don't have one, would you have any idea how i would go about doing that? I know how to solder and all that...

If it is a commercial/business radio in alot of cases they are programmed with a computer program, just plug the radio into the computer with the proper patch cord and use the proper programming software and you can enter the frequencies and PL tones needed.....

I looked up that radio on google and I didnt find anything... that dont mean there is nothing to be found on that radio, just that I didnt locate anything :headbang

Keep in mind that you do need a license to be able to talk on the ham bands

Maybe someone else will post on this as well ...someone with a bit more knowlage than me

I found the PDF on this radio, it was made in the 1970's in Australia, so I think everything is crystal based, How would I patch into it with my computer? Would I have to solder a seriel connection to my PLL chip? I am just taking a guess here.

I can upload the PDF to the radio if that may help...

ok so it isnt a handheld.....but still I would have to say the frequency change is done with the crystals

I dont claim to know it all, what I posted is just my thoughts.....

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
