Variable power on a Grant XL?

VR10 is 5K ohms.

the RF gain pot is only 1K.
it wont work.

the SWR CAL pot is 5K.
it will work.
otherwise, you'll have to buy yourself a 5K linear taper pot.

Why not set the gain where you want it and leave it alone? If built right, your peak output should be near the same no matter what the deadkey is.

For that to happen the amc would have to be wide open or disabled.
Likely the guy wants to run an amp and needs a variable carrier.

My 148 and 2000 are set for a 2-watt dead key and swing 25+. No need for variable power. They are set where I want them and they swing up to max gain from there.

A 6 watt dead key will be too much for 90% of all the 2 pill amplifiers out there. I had my Grant xl set for 2 watts and it would swing 12-14, I could run dozens of different amplifiers that way.

Most of the time, I have no need of an amp.

Some like to run thiers to talk to the truck ahead of them, I don't.

Sometimes the driver will be enough, sometimes the amp. Makes it alot easier to adapt without pulling a case.

Also makes it easier to set the whole thing up, even if it's run one way.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
