wagle sidewinder 400 swing mod

I just got a eagle Sidewinder 400 from a friend and id like to do a low power high swing mod so i can use my amp behind of it..

I have one I bought new and never did find a mod for the radio to put a swing mod in it. I just turned the dead key down just a little to run a amp with back in about 2001 or 2002 when I bought it. I still have the radio in the box and once in awhile I pull it out to make sure it still works. a nice radio at least the one I have is. I even put a echo board in it one time. it is out now. just put it back stock.

just lower your dead key to 1-2 watts.
then bring up your amc or modulation to max
i have one nice little radio. not a loud am radio. but decent. ssb and fm are really surprising though

There were several different versions of this radio that are all variations of the first generation Magnum 257. I had one called a pro star 400 as I recall. These radio's are all nice little talkers and stable on SSB. That said they are single final and not big wattage radio's. As was already suggested, set the AM dead key to 2 watts er so and run that into your amp. The one I had was set for 1.5 watts dead key and 12-14 watts peak. Great radio, there is not much else that needs to be done to it. Now if you just gotta have a 40 watt radio then yea sell it, it was never supposed to be a big swinger.

ya mine is actually the pro star 400, but i say eagle sidewinder cause its a little more
popular name. yes there not big wattage makers but there great on ssb and work
really well with my 2 pill amp and 1x4 amp

Yup, I think I ran mine with a Texas Star 350 & 667 both with great results.
