There were several different versions of this radio that are all variations of the first generation Magnum 257. I had one called a pro star 400 as I recall. These radio's are all nice little talkers and stable on SSB. That said they are single final and not big wattage radio's. As was already suggested, set the AM dead key to 2 watts er so and run that into your amp. The one I had was set for 1.5 watts dead key and 12-14 watts peak. Great radio, there is not much else that needs to be done to it. Now if you just gotta have a 40 watt radio then yea sell it, it was never supposed to be a big swinger.
