I tried twice to wire it according to the info I got from cbtricks.org and it still doesn't work. This is what they gave me: 1. Shield & Black, 2. Red, 3.white, and 4. Blue. Help please? Dan

Wiring for Cobra CA-80 power mic to Galaxy DX 44V

I can't find any info on the CA-80 online. OK, I can find retailers that tell me it's out of stock, but that doesn't help you much.
All I have to go on is that you've told us it's a five wire mic, so here's a cool diagram I stole from a website that stole it from another website:
I'm guessing the CA-80 is wired like this because Cobra's five wire radios (148 GTL, 2000 GTL, etc) require a separate ground for audio and RX/TX switching.
As you can see, if you've got a multimeter handy you can figure out which color wire does what pretty quickly. It's not strictly necessary, but it does make life so much easier. And if you can see which wire has the shield braid wrapped around it you've already identified two of the functions above.
You can also open the mic body up and look at what color wire attaches to which contact on the PTT switch. It would be pretty unusual for the colors to change as they go to the other end of the cable.
As a last resort I suppose you could post a pic of the PTT switch here and we can try to play pin the connector on the microphone.
