Yaesu 757GX?

interesting problem. Jim's 757GX has appears to have no TX on AM. Works great on SSB. We can check SWR on AM but get nada when we try to TXw/or w/o mod. A dead key doesn't show up station to station, but will register on an external meter. I live about 3 miles from Jim. When trouble shooting this I had him attempt to TX to me to hear him or just get a S-Unit reading. I don't understand how we can check SWR with an external meter but don't get a S-Unit reading station to station from a short distance. I know we are missing something here, I just can't figure out what it is.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":">

How much power reads on the external meter? It may be putting power, but very little like milliwatts.
