Yaesu FT 100D getting to hot?

I remember reading that these radios tend to get a little hot. The problem is that sometimes (but not every time) i have my FT on it smells like the radio is getting to hot. Kinda smells like wire burning in a way but i never see smoke,the fan only kicks on every so often and the radio is not hot to the touch. Is this just the way these radios are or is it something i should be worried about?

I still have not gotten my ticket so i only use the radio to listen to. As i said before the radio is like new and was only used on 2 meter and 440 by the original owner with no mods done to the radio.

IIRC the fan on those radios runs all the time at low speed on HF and high speed when TX'ing. On VHF and UHF the fans do not run at all on RX and the radios will get quite warm. There is a modification to have the fans run all the time in standby while RX'in on VHF/UHF just like they do on HF.

Nope. They're designed in such a way to be warm, and the cooling fan does a perfectly adequate job of removing any excess heat when necessary. Not to worry.
