What is the worst source of RFI you have ever encountered?

Well most computers, monitors etc. Worst I had was several doorbell xformers. Most of you have probably heard one of them. Usually start buzzzz an hour or so after sunup and stop an hour or so before sunset. Really bad trash. These things can blow you out from a mile away with full scale noise...

East Alabama power co radio freqs

worked navy and industrial maintenance for over 20 years. I am an amateur radio op and have always monitored many of our local freqs. I used to listen to the ala pwr co radios as they systematically worked to troubleshoot power outages. I found this very interesting as they proceeded to fix the...

    Can't Find Local PD Freq.

I don't see why it makes a difference how old a thread is if somebody is interested enough to read it. Otherwise the threads should be automatically deleted after say 30 days

    Can't Find Local PD Freq.

Looking for any local freqs check with your local ham radio club. They work with police, fire and emergency management so should have the freqs you are looking for. If they have a club site on the internet these freqs may be listed in the files section.

I have an ft 840 and have never had a problem with heat. The internal fan has never come on. I always run SSB so if you are running FM OR AM there will be more heat. You didn[t say if your fan comes on or not. If not I'd check for another problem causing the over heating. Great radio by the...

    Painting antenna

Yes you can. I contacted several antenna makers and they all said go for it. Even new, several coats of white will help keep the UV from burning the original coating off. They (Cushcraft and others) said spar varnish would not last as long so I used Krylon. Nothing like metalic (silver etc) and...

How to weatherproof a coax connection?

I don't like electrical tape if the connector is exposed to weather.sun etc. It will eventually come loose or come off. Use coax seal, Scotch also has similar produce but name excapes me now. This stuff is kinda like tar/bubble gum combined. If put on and molded all around and it seals to...

Hey dude welcome to MFJ and the J can mean junkkkkk. I have two of these tuners and used one for 8 or ten years then it went bonkers. MFJ has terrible quality control and I have found cold solder joints on several pieces of their stuff over the years. That's what was wrong my tuner and after I...

    Radio Shack Scanners

I have several RAT SHACK scanners and never had a problem. I have a pro 2032 in my ham shack that hasn't been turned off for maybe 6 years just turn the volume down or up. It's on a big gel cell battery. I also have a handheld pro 82. Both are great. The 2032 I think is 2000 channels and the 82...
