Best Mobile Antenna 10 - 40 Meters

A lot of the earlier screwdriver antennas had poor windings, they were just too small and were lossy. A lot also had problems with the finger stock wearing and under-powered motors but they have come a long way since then. Most of them today with the exception of the really small ones perform very well.

I agree with this. I have no complaints about the Sidekick from High Sierra, it performs well, easy to maintain and is not overly large. On the higher freq's it performs about as good as when I used a hamstick type antenna but 14 megs and below it performs much better as I would expect. As I have said before I did replace the 36" whip with a 72" one for easier tuning on 40 and 80.

Despite a cold front blowing in this morning, I was able to play around a bit today. Had to adjust the shunt coil a bit for spread to get the Ohms right, but here's the best I could do:

Broom handle works nicely as a coil form! I need to read the book for the analyzer I borrowed, but I'm thinking X is reactance, and lower is better. I hope. I'm sure one of you guys can help me out here with an explanation. :)
