It's really just the same as checking SWR anywhere. The biggy is to use a meter that is designed to work at VHF/UHF, most common meters won't do well on those higher frequencies.
Where the frequency range is fairly wide, checking at several sort of widely spaced frequencies/channels lets you know 'where' in that band your antenna shows a low SWR. The same is certainly true at VHF/UHF as well as any other 'band'. "Tuning" VHF/UHF antennas, or adjusting for a low SWR is also just like on any other band, except, you do that 'tuning' in much smaller 'chunks'! Fractions of an inch at VHF/UHF can make a big difference (antenna lengths).
And just like on any other band, once you do it a few times it becomes 'familiar' and isn't 'new' anymore... easy, sort of. Same 'bases', just a different 'ball park'.
