ok, so while i love my old bearcat 700a
it went quiet yesterday when the local constabulary and fire dept
turned off the old repeater and fired up their new motorola smartzone trunked system ,

its been a good scanner through the years and owes me nothing
but it is becoming obsolete and i am going to purchase a new one capable of tracking trunked systems
and with more features ,
possibly one that will interface with my computer
and any other features that you may suggest

so , who has any suggestions for me as to what i should be looking for
and what i should expect to pay ???

raves ,(y) rants , :thumbdown:pieces of crap ,????????

thanks

Don't have any suggestions here, but once you pick one, go to ebay. Last time I looked, ebay runneth over with scanners and the prices were low.

Well, F.W.i.W. ive purchased a radio shack pro2096
a triple trunking fully digital scanner , on Highlander 821's suggestion

i got it on clearance for 242 dollars , thats down from 499 when they first hit the shelves

this thing is loaded !!! and its a snap to program with win96 and an optional cable , (glad i bought it )
does digital , am , and fm analog ,
and RS Promises to support these after rebanding occurs
either with a flash update , or with a chip replacement
there is some conjecture that it may not even be neccesary
but time will tell on that

anyway , just wanted to let everybody know what i decided
and if your looking for a good scanner , get one of these babies
before they are all gone ,

Here is a link to a very nice unit that happens to be on sale. I think this radio is a good value for the money:

GRE PSR-300 Police Scanner Radio

These are flash-update capable, so when your 800 MHZ Motorola trunked system gets re-banded, you will be able to download new firmware and be good to go.
good pick or the GRE 500 GRE PSR-500 Scanner

/GRE PSR-600 any of them will get the job done(y)

Digital or non digital, it's a $300 question in price difference. Check on locals and see if things are going digital. If they aren't, you can do really well for a lot less money.

The GRE scanners are excellent as they issue firmware updates with feature changes for free.

The BCT15 is excellent too if you don't need digital.
