sirio changed the top one . no longer an astroplane clone

Damn, it's got a top hat, a hoop, and a gamma match. The only thing that it doesn't have is a decent wattage handling capability. I'm guessing that's due to the gamma match limitations.

It looks like a Merlin Starduster Astroplane. I wonder if it has a gain better than an 8 element beam too?

apparently its gonna take Maury Povich to do a paternity test to see which one is really this bebbys daddie . or maybe its like that lady with the 5 day rule . hehehehehehe

I have dispatched an email to see if any of our local distributors are handling it yet/

BOB85 i am very curious to know your take on this "new" antenna design.

why is a gamma match needed on a 1/4 wave antenna???

looks to me like its a 1/4 wave vertical dipole using a capacity hat on the top to make up the extra length.

we need to know where this thing is fed from and if there is a patent sheet.

i for one think it really SUCKS that they changed the design.
it was all but perfect before!

sirio could have done it different but why not use what they already have on the shelf,

heres the script

"franco how can we make these look more interesting"

"we could anodise em boss make em look real nice"

"no franco that costs money and anodising dont last"

"franco we need something different, how bout you go grab me a vector i wanna try something"

" sure boss what you thinking"

"what im thinking franco is we gonna flip this thing on its head"

"on its head boss hows that gonna work"

"it will work franco go grab me a vector"

"yo franco, how bout you go get me a tornado hub and radials"

"sure boss, what you gonna do with the hub and radials"

"what im gonna do is this franco, im gonna take the hub and radials, cut the radials in half and stick em on top"

"on top boss, i aint seen it done like that before"

"zactly franco, we gotta make it look different"

"franco, how bout you flip that gamma over so we dont need an insulator and new hub"

" great idea boss will it work"

"sure it will work franco, all we gotta do is find the 50ohm tap up top and cancell the reactance with the gamma"

"boss your too smart"

"i know franco i know, thats why im the boss and your the builder"

"hey presto franco"

"boss that looks interesting and we got everything we need already, we can start building right away, what we gonna call it"

"what you think franco"

"i dont know boss, i aint never seen no antenna turned upside down with radials on top before"

"thats it franco, the name, we gonna call it the topone"

cannon its not even vaguely related to the astroplane/topone in how it works,
i wish they had made a decent quality astroplane copy too.

bob is one smart cookie , no doubt .
but its a good thing he doesnt do advertising for sirio . hahahahaha

That dialog sounds like Zeppo Marx - with the 'boss' usage...

Isn't the change in top of this antenna meant to create more capacitance - and therefore shorten the electrical length?

BTW- weren't these antennas notorious for throwing off a lot of RFI/TVI?

And weren't they originally a 3/4 wave in electrical length?
