Gizmotchy Antenna Review

Hank Hill say butane is the bastard gas.

Here are a few pictures of the assembly process.

There are no actual written directions. Unfortunately just a few pictures with some dimensions. :eek:

Comments as I move along.

More images,

I will provide comments after I show the finished product, there was just a lack of written directions. I put this together based on some experience assembling HF Yagi style antennas in the past.

OK, the antenna is ready to go in the air, I had some assembly problems.

I did not want to drill the stud until I made sure the SWR was ok as I am not unscrewing the sheet metal screw if I had to disassemble to readjust the element length.

The antenna is set up on a temporary mast that is about 20 foot high so it can be worked on.

Using the MFJ Analyzer you seen the results, both horizontal and vertical SWR seem ok.

See my next post as to why it is not in the air yet.

Here is my question before it goes in the air.

The picture assembly say the elements should be as follows.

REFLECTOR = 109 INCHES

SPACING FROM REFLECTOR TO DRIVEN = 3 FOOT 8 INCHES

DRIVER = 105 INCHES

SPACING FROM DRIVER TO FIRST DIRECTOR = 5 FOOT 2 INCHES

DIRECTOR 1 = 100 INCHES

SPACING FROM FIRST DIRECTOR TO THE SECOND DIRECTOR = 3 FOOT 8 INCHES

DIRECTOR 2 = 100 INCHES

All elements attach to the hubs are 1/2 O.D. diameter and reduce to a smaller 3/8 O.D. of the element.

The Boom is 12 foot long

Does this seem correct?

Can someone double check this on Eznec?

It just seems the front director should be a tad shorter than the first???

I am just basing this off assembling a Moonraker and a Shooting Star.

Help me out before I put this in the air

from the Gizmotchy site:

Gizmotchy® Power Booster

The Gizmotchy® Power Booster consists of another set of director elements identical to those
on the antenna plus an extension boom. Addition of the Gizmotchy® Power Booster adds
forward gain to the Gizmotchy® antenna. One of more Gizmotchy® power boosters may be
added. Weight of each power booster is 4 lbs.

so at least you know that gizmotchy is aware that the second set of directors is the same length as the first.

it looks like very lightweight construction hamer, how thick is the wall on that tube?, if you don't have a caliper then a rough guide would be does the 3/8" fit with just the right clearance into the 1/2" like .058" wall or loose like .049"wall?

nice trees
