Just scored a Tram ssb diamond 60. What a sweet vintage radio. I had never heard of Tram but they made a nice well made rig. Anyone have or use these old radios?

I just had one given to me from a ham. It woudnt turn on but it had a blown protection diode. It has NICE receive audio but kinda whimpy transmit audio on AM. Looking for some mods to make it talk on AM.

isnt it like a cobra 132 board or something like that?

It is a Toshiba board and is in fact the same as the old Cobra 132 /135. Great radio but it does have it's limitations. It should broadband to 40 channels just fine, I believe cbtricks.com has a fairly simply mod for it. Don't forget to get it re-aligned after broadbanding.

Since the radio has no mic gain control your best bet for more modulation is a good power mic. These old 23 channel rigs didn't have a mod limiter so don't crank the thing up to 11 or it will splatter. Power wise you should be able to get 8-10 watts without stressing it too much. Put about 200 watts behind it with a decent mic and antenna and it should make you very happy.

Additionally this radio came from the factory with an unlocked clarifier. They can be made to slide about 12 kc which is more than enough to pick up the old 'A' channels and anything that might get skipped after the 40 ch conversion.

I've a nice little Siltronix Sensor VFO that will work on your radio. Not really practical for mobile use but if you are running it as a base, that's one way to open it up for frequencies. Of course then you would need a decent counter...
