I was looking at the Baofeng UV-3R on wouxun.us last night, which looks like a neat little radio. This little 2 watt radio looks like a direct competitor to the Yaesu VX-3, for only $55! It even sports case color options:

Has anyone tried one of these yet?

I have...

It's a great little rig. I like it better than the last VX-2 and VX-3 I owned. The FM radio is much more sensitive than the Yaesu. I believe they are selling a new version with dual display.

Can't beat the price for a simple little unit that works.

i tried the single frequency display model and found it worked amazingly well talking from the fields to local base stations for its size and cost, about £30 delivered, we compared it to other handhelds and got a bit of a surprise,
it wiped the floor with the vx2 but its not nearly as nicely made as the yaesu, i don't know how it handles strong signals,
be much more "handy" if they came with a drop-in charging cradle,

i had a quick fiddle with my buddies newer twin frequency readout version which seemed ok, still feels cheaply made but what can you expect at that price, he loves it.

I talked to a station this week that just bought one. He's less than 10 miles from the repeater. He used a rubber duck on both.

Audio was ok, 2 watts was just not enough to get rid of the noise.

If you had an attic antenna, it might work. Then again you use the portability.

Not sure the price, but the Yaesu FT-60R is $159 delivered.

If your under a repeater or want to do close in simplex you should be ok.

If money is the problem, I would get the Woxon for $110 and have full power.

Keep us posted.

How easy are they to program???

The velly eas to plogram.

He said the usual translation problems. He said he had the same driver problems as the Wouxon when using the software. He also said he could only hit 2 repeaters, so it was not an issue.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
