I know some of you out there are audio-a-holics.

I was hoping some of you could give me an honest opinion on headphones.

I recently purchased a pair of Bose QC15 Noise Cancelling Head Phones:
Bose | QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones | Noise Cancelling Headphones

I do travel for work, once or twice a month, and LOVE the noise cancellation on these.

I was only wondering if anyone else uses these headphones ??

At $300 I use these as much as possible ! On my phone, on my radio in my car, on my laptop, when i am at home listening on my base radio, you name it !

I "kinda liked" the Monster Dre Beats, BUT, the noise cancellation wasnt there.
They also seemed they were kinda tailored to "bass" heavy music.



Are there any other quality head phones out there in this caliber ?

I like Sennheiser myself. I feel that BOSE is overhyped.

Dr Dre Beats are for the bruthas and are foolish looking.

i use my Sennheiser HD 555's for cb , computer and of course music and home theater . (y) the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 are supposed to also be really nice in the $100 price range .
 
I have always been partial to Sennheiser as well. I love my pair but can't remember the model number at the moment. They are not the noise cancelling type but I only use them at home or with the laptop so no big deal.
 
I recently bought these on ebay....they are broadcast headphones.



A PAIR OF VINTAGE SENNHEISER HMD 224 HEADPHONES WITH MIC. MADE IN GERMANY. THESE ARE FROM AN OLD RADIO STATION.
 
Compare a number of headphones by wearing them but not listening to any audio.
Without moving what do you hear? If you hear anything at all those sounds would be competing with the actual signal that you do want to listen to. Consider it unwanted ambient Noise.

Another consideration is mechanical noise.

Same thing, no signal, just wear them.
Move your head around as you would during normal use. Hear anything? The cord rubbing on your clothes? Your hair brushing the earcups?
Touch the headphones lightly like you are readjusting them. Again what do you hear?

You will find doing the above with some headphones you will be pretty annoyed.
Others will better attenuate/isolate the unwanted ambient and mechanical noise.

I forgot all about headsets rather than just headphones. I have a pair of Beyer Dynamics DT-109's. They work GREAT for on-air use and will likely work even better if I wired them up to fit the Kenwood TS-820S rather than the old Heath DX-60 that they are now wired for. :laugh: The DT-109 pretty much set the standard for on-air use and news gathering and filming.

Yep....they will work perfect for me....plug it into the mixer board and I will be able to listen to my audio and make adjustments. :)
 
Noise Canceling you can keep
( they are useless and never do as they claim )

I like ..Sennheiser , Denon and Klipsch ..
 
I've had the Grado SR-60 for 15 years or so - very highly rated for an "economy" phone. Recently got a Sennheiser 170 wireless. Love them. I can wander all over the house listening to MP3s, Pandora, Savage. Just now set it up to use with the Kenwood.

I have the audio from the Kenwood going through a stereo amp so I get the left and right side of the Kenwood radio going through the left and right speakers. It would be nice to be able to switch between this setup (Side A=Left/Side B=Right) and a combined A=Left AND Right for the phones without having to switching out cable or adapters each time I want to change it. Still thinking about how to do this.
