Anyone else had these issues with your Magnum 257HP?

I must have been one of the lucky ones to have gotten one of the ones plagued with problems.

I found today that when using LSB, my radio will continue to modulate after I have quit speaking into the mic. The same thing sometimes happens on USB (but not always).

This became evident when I would attempt to communicate on sideband, but noticed the meter was still pegged out even after I quit talking.

So I hooked up a second radio as the receiving end....as soon as a quit speaking, sure enough there was a hum evident on the other radio.

Also of interest I noticed once on AM it sounded like my signal was real weak despite the test radio wasn't but 20 feet away. Then I keyed up again and all seemed normal.

Anyone else have these problems?

Yup. Bad solder joint on the rfx. Look closely. Also could be a crappy tune someone did.

Thanks for the response....I asked GI joe's electronics NOT to peak or tune the radio...aka "sell it to me stock".

I'll check the solder joints. So far I pulled the bottom off and didn't see anything. (took pics too) I guess I need to check the underside of the circuit board.

Check all the solder on the output finals inside the rfx. And there is a pot somewhere on the board thats causing it to dk power on SSB...not sure as I dont have the radio anymore.
