If you make changes in the way an antenna is designed and put together then expect there to be 'problems' with that antenna. It could still be made to work, probably, but expecting it to be as 'good' as before it was 're-designed' isn't very likely.
If an antenna (however it's made) doesn't 'fit' where you want to put it, then that antenna just isn't your best choice, now is it? Doesn't matter how 'fantastic' the thing may be, if it doesn't 'fit', then it's not going to do you much good.
The 'trick' is to figure out the limitations for placing an antenna, finding one that 'fits' those limitations. that's the antenna that's 'best' for your particular situation.
