Hi Folks, so... if I had a radio with a built in amp and dedided to run it through a seperate amp would it be dangerous?? Say for example the Omegaforce ran through to a KL 400 ran through to an antenna.Obviously everything would be turned down low going to the amp but would the amp Blow or worse again would the Omegaforce blow?? I would be very cautious about doing it but
I'd prefare to find out here first. So Do or Don't Do???

why would you want the amp?The radio does 75 wtts on ssb?Theres not much diffrence in db gain between the radio and the radio and amp....the amp will do 350 wtts input, about 180 on a real wtt meter not one of the cheap swing meters.I have 2 mtrs, one to buy with and one to sell with...like most of us...There is 1 db gain, not worth the extra money, and also dont hit that amp with over 15 pep...73 de JW

So, you misrepresent items that you sell?

Maybe he makes honest mistakes. It is apparent he makes mistakes when talking about dB gain/loss. The difference between 75 watts and 180 watts is a bit MORE than 3dB, not a measly 1 dB.

On a lighter note I DO agree with N0ZNA that even with 3 dB the risk of accidentally hitting the amp with FARRRR too much drive more than outweighs the small (half an S-unit) gain achieved by using the amp.

RM/KLV amps are very easy to blow up and you need to read the manual...then make the decision for yourself.

You can do this but you will need an amplifier that can handle the output of your radio. Here is an example of an amplifier that a local ran with his Omegaforce HP.

The RM line of amplifiers are kinda cheap and very much low drive light duty amplifiers.
