Yes mine has had a diode clipped around J15 on my board as well.
How did you install the switch?

Glad you found it. I know it was bugging the crap out of me when I couldn't get the talkback to shut off with echo or not. I'm running this radio in my mobile with an external speaker under my headrest, so feedback was horrendous!

I wonder if there was some kind of hack fix before on these radios and why would they do it that way?

I know its a old post but d80 by the transformer if it is cut it will give you talkback all the time aswell
