Yesterday I was having a conversation with a ham friend of mine. We were reminiscing about our CB days back in the 70"s. We started talking about having a CB license and call sign. He actually remembered his. It was K -something -something and then some numbers. I remember that mine was KABZ and then some numbers I can't remember anymore. He said I was wrong, it couldn't have been a 4-letter prefix. I think I'm right.

Does anybody know where I can go to find my original CB call sign?

I dont know off hand where you could go to find the old CB radio calls,I am sure there is a place though

I remember my old CB call sign...it was KAEF-0654

Yes there were 4 letter calls issued towards the end of required licensing

And welcome to the board !!
 
Don't know when they started the so called 3x4's or4x4 digits & letters,
but mine was in the mid 70's to late 70's , KAFS-4270.
 
This thread is dating the authors, anyone that remembers a CB license is hitting the golden years and I don't mean Golden Eagle tube rigs? I had a call myself, a buddy (Fred Flintstone) and I applied via the FCC if I remember? and the calls were mail back a few weeks later. Good stuff, we worked net operations and handled many nightly calls checkins from the north Texas area. Denton, ft worth, Dallas, Australia Texas, New Zealand Texas, Columbia-Bolivia,Texas and many other stations inside the 100-150 mile radius that CB folks could talk with out breaking the rules. Nitely nets around ft worth Dallas might have 10-15 regulars and then about 9-10' pm the guys from all over America and the world called in. We Had a lot of fun......sent cards and t shirts,caps back and forth to many places. 39 lsb was a fun place, in the day time was a giant noise level.....some days I had trouble talking 20 miles mobile to base.....the cycle was almost too much. Always want an SBE station and Console....!!!

well, I agree that in the U.S. they were called a "license", but, the fact is they really were "permits" in the legal sense of the word.:tongue:

it later became FCC policy to just use your initials and add your zipcode numbers for the class D permit.
 
They had just dropped the requirement for licensing for CB when I bought my first CB radio. I still have it. TRC-428 nine scan mobile. The application for a permit was included in the box.
 
I got mine in 1974..... KBLS1303. Used on my first radio.... A 23 Chanel Royce. Loved every minute of it and still do..........
