Craigslist ads?

The only problem with Craigslist, EBay, etc. is that many sellers have no idea about radio equipment. So many people pick things up at yard sales, estate auctions, and such and try to resell them for profit. Often times they damage them in the process of "testing" them for operation. Their, so called, testing often damages a perfectly good working radio. Either that, or they just know it doesn't work and sell it anyway. They list it as "no way to test so selling as is." Buying used is always a gamble.

Oh I agree about buyer beware. But I have seen a couple ads where some deals could be had. There is a guy selling a big box full of radios and misc items for an asking price of 160 but in the first picture I can see a wilson 5000 and a president Madison base along with another base radio and what appears to be an old mobile. I would love to check it out and maybe make an offer, but his a little to far away.

I found an ad in craigslist, a couple years ago, that listed free CB radios. I drove 6 hours round trip to pick them up. I filled the back of my truck with them. Literally over 100 radios. I figured it was worth the gas to pick them up, even if only a few worked. As it turned out, I drove 6 hours to go take out his trash, lol.

I have purchased many radios, most of which used. I'm pretty sure that every one has been to the shop. Some have had multiple trips. The funny thing is that even my radios that were purchased new, still required a visit to the bench. It was before I learned what I was doing, and I purchased from a hack shop. So purchasing new can be just as problematic as buying used, if you purchase from a bad shop.

Haha ain that some crap!

We'll just out of curiosity I may drive an Hour and half to go look at the radios this guy has. The only one I want is the President Madison but if there is some goodies in there it maybe worth the drive. He's supposed to call me today and give me a run down of what's all in there.

Don't let my bad experience deter you. Not all used radios are junk. Every situation is exclusive. You can never be sure until you check.

It's not. The guy with the box of stuff hasn't called yet so that kinda stinks. I was looking forward to hearing about what's in the box!

I once saw an ad on Craigslist where some guy was selling 10 mobiles and 6 base stations for parts, for $20. Most of the mobiles were old Midlands. All of the bases were 23 channels. Half of the mobiles were 40 channels. A couple of the radios were SSB. Drove an hour and a half round trip to get them. I figured for parts radios, I did ok.

Turns out all but 1 of the base rigs and one of the mobiles, actually still worked! I ended up selling all but 1 or 2 of them on eBay and made a profit of at least 10 times what I paid for the lot.

The deals can be had if you know where and when to look. BTW if you can't see the radio work, treat it as if it doesn't work and pay accordingly.

Well he just emailed me pictures of his stuff. No SSB radios. The Washington turned out to be a Dwight D.

He has a lot of cb tune up master edition manuals though. They look brand new. If you'd like to take a peek at what he has pm me your email.

YES!

Yes by all means Used is worth the Gamble if it is not a Large amount invested....The BEST Radios I have ever bought were sight un-seen! I have a Voyage Export that is one of the best if not the best talking radio in the car/truck I have ever owned and I have had a number of 'em over the past 40 years. This thing will swing to nearly 50 with NO HELP!I talk DX and skip (SSB and AM) ...I have less than a Bill in it...a $300.00 Radio if new (IF a mew one can be found), The only problems I've had is the solder joints are breaking lose and I've had to re-heat/re-solder a few in the past year. Mainly due to 12-15 yr vibration before I got it. I've had it about 4 months. I've bought several "president" Radios over the years since they began making them. One of the best I ever owned was a "Plain Jane" Zachary T...I "Talked" all over North and South America with that thing with a JB 12 and NOTHING MORE! So yes...there are some good deals on some good radios out there and some that are junk too...Just ask questions and pay close attention to how your questions are answered...you can usually get a feel of a guys honesty and knowledge by just the way he talks to you. GOOD LUCK TD

Around here, the desirable stuff is usually picked up right away by the local CB shop (who also operates the local CB club) for resale...most everything that's left isn't worth looking at.
