Texas Ranger 296 is a Malaysian Cobra 148 GTL with a different face plate.
$156 shipped isn't too bad.

I tuned one a few years ago and it was a nice radio. like you said just basically a 148 radio and works good, you should be happy with it.

I already own and use one of these radios. If this auction didn't have a BIN or best offer, I would have gone as high as $185 plus shipping.
I won it and bought it.
The last NOS Cobra 148, I saw on ebay, went for $240. Just another one to add to the bunch.

Radio was dead on frequency out of the box and all functions working properly. Nice 5 pin side mic 148 GTL clone.
It must be the last generation of the 296 because of no coffin style mic, just the stock mic with the lead weight in it.
