got the gizmotchy on the tower but:


I cheaped out on the rotor, NTE U-015 , it turns the beam just fine but the control box doesn't track it very well at all?? the dot on the rotor box turns just a little faster than the antenna is turning. I did the resynch several times but it doesn't change
 

With a rotational torque of only 8 ft.lbs. you probably won't have to wait long before the tracking difference becomes the least of your worries with that rotator. :unsure:

same rotor my buddy has on his 3 element gizmotchy for 3 years now and he is always turning it,, my 4 element giz is 16# plus the mast

I know its cheap but it works for him,, ill probly just have to get a better one

Yeah but you have the four element correct? If that rotator is mounted right at the boom then it will last longer.Any mast length between it and the antenna boom will exert a lot of bending forces on it especially if there is any ice involved. My concern is the sideways forces exerted on the rotator case as it is an off set design rotator and not an inline bell type. The wind can/will play havoc with it. IIRC that type has hardened nylon gears (plastic) and not steel so it could very well strip the teeth in a high wind. Rotators are not cheap but it pays to get something rated for more then you need versus less.

Even the Ham IV is a lot of overkill for the four element Giz. The CD-45 II would be a great choice and should last a lifetime trouble free.

I used a CD-45 for years and years with a three element tribander and a six element 6m yagi until the ring gear broke on winter. The elements got caught in the tree branches and the cold wx just killed it one day.
 
so anyways,, we were working fast this morning before the rain and t-storms came,, so im going to get back up there and lube the mast to bushing and make sure every thing is centered up,, its my first rotor install so things may have shifted a bit.


and ill start looking for a better rotor
