I'm new to forums sorry if this is the wrong spot

I live in Michigan.
What is the Max. power
I should need If I only
want to talk with in the lower 48 states.
I don't wish to talk any farther than California.
Can this be done without an amplifier?

What license class are you and what band do you intend to use? I've been a ham for going on 26 years and on HF run 100 watts or less 99.9% of the time. You can work the world on 100 watts and there's really no need for an amp for casual operating.

Why don't you want to make contacts any farther than California???

I mainly only want to talk in the band/bands the
Majority of the Lowest Class technicians such as my self talk.
Which band would this be?

Does the Technician Class cover the lower 48? Or will I need General?

Since I only want to talk to the lower 48 States
I guess I can get by with just a Radio and Antenna?
Any Reccomendations here? such as radio for a beginner?

From his post:

28.000-28.300 MHz: CW, RTTY/Data--Maximum power 200 watts PEP
28.300-28.500 MHz: CW, Phone--Maximum power 200 watts PEP

And some CW only spots in other bands.
Since you want to "talk" 10 meter is your only option for your license, and range depends heavily on conditions, not power, today the 10 meter was open and with 10 watts ( minimum output of the FT 2000-D) i spoke to Canada.( from the Netherlands)

Every amateur band has it's own propagation and conditions, 10 meter is mostly limited to local qso's except in sporadic E or Solar related conditions as now, world wide contacts are no problem.

Summer/winter also plays a role in what band and what frequency will open on which time of the day or night.

Want to use the full spectrum, go for the higher license.
I mostly operate on 160 the winterband with less noise on the northern hemisphere.

Power isn't the main ingredient, antenna, antenna antenna...... power is one of the last bits in the equation, propagation, band choice and antenna.

All we have to learn here for our licenses.
Yes i can make 1000 watts here, but 99% of the time i'm between 10 -225 watts the FT 2000 - D delivers.

Hope to have answered your Q, if not do ask further, don't hesitate to ask, that is how we learn.

Sorry to be blunt but you passed your test right? Part of the test was knowing what bands you can use, what power you can use and etc. As a technician class ham you should already know where you can operate and how much power you can use. You should also know a small amount about propagation as well.

...Since you want to "talk" 10 meter is your only option for your license...

that's not correct at all.

from his QTH, depending on propagation, he can work both U.S. coasts (and anywhere in between) on bands other that 10 meters using fone

Does this look accurate?
Where do most new hams start on Radio Not fone?

28.300-28.500 USB. The band is pretty spotty lately, but I had Venezuela/Brazil and a pre-contest dude down near Haiti. Also have Oregon in very strong today. 10 meters is pretty fickle, but sometimes I think it's because Hams don't talk on it if it's quiet. You can go to 11 meters and there are tons of people coming in, but 10 will be quiet. I actually heard a bunch of guys discussing this very subject this morning on 10 meters.

As stated above, you don't have to have a ton of power. I run a Magnum 257HP at about 50 watts with a Wilson 5000 in my rental car(s) and have made plenty of contacts in the continental US.

73, and congrats on the new ticket.
