Galaxy DX-959

seconded.

do not EVER let copper electronics touch the radios you buy from them.

their tech may or may not know what he/ she is doing, but all they do is turn the pots all the way up, and enable the extra channels if need be.

I first experience with Copper is when I bought the NOS/NIB Ranger TRE-936FFC for $89. The chrome case had a very small nick in it and looked like someone scratched it trying to rub the nick out smooth. Whether it was Copper or Ranger,I don't know. It was wrapped just like it would come from Ranger unless Copper has a A1 wrapping department. Copper never answered my emails about it. My radio did come with stickers on it saying to ship it back to the manufacturer if there's an issue.

P.S. I made sure that when I ordered it that I did not want them touching it other than shipping it to me due to advice from the radio gods.

If they didn't drift so much I'd bite.

I used to be a Galaxy fanatic. I have purchased two dx-949's, one dx-959, and a DX-979. All off frequency to the point SSB communications were impossible. Drifting all over the place. I aligned the DX-979 to tight tolerances only to have the modulation circuits give up the ghost. The modulation was set to the maximum of 95% and it still crapped out.
In the future I'm saving my money and buying a real radio.
H&Y electronics sells a truck load of Galaxy radios just because they are cheap. You get what you pay for some times you don't.

Tallman,

If you still have any of those radios for cheap let me know. I want to experiment with that board, do some mods to see if I can increase stability. Thanks!!

~Cheers~

Still loving using my CRE-8900 in my ride. It's stable on freq. I keep my 959 in the house and the temps are more stable than in the ride. If you do a lot of SSB then don't mess with Galaxy especially in a mobile situation. Much as I'm enamored with a Galaxy(2100),my main SSB use would be something CPU controlled.

However,I've been thinking about getting a rig more haminality orientated. Of course most of the hams on this forum would agree on getting a better quality type of ham radio than the current ham want to be export radios currently on the market. If you want to play you got to pay.
