For those of you who have a gasoline-powered generator and have thought about adding the capability of propane and/or natural gas (while retaining the capability to run regular pump gasoline as well), US Carburetion has released an improved conversion kit for almost any generator motor on the market. They do have a regular web site, but also offer their products on ebay.

Below is a link to their ebay page. Check the make and model # of your generator's motor to make sure you order the correct kit. Although they're a little more expensive, I recommend their New & Improved kits. There are NO returns for the old-style 'obsolete' kits they're still selling, and the new kits are much more efficient.

They are currently offering greatly reduced prices on all of the conversion kits, so if you want one, now is the time to buy it.

* You will also need the accessory kit to connect to your propane fuel source. (These accessory kits are also currently on sale now).

The kit above comes with a 12' hose … for few $ less, you can get the kit with a 6' hose

They mention that the hose supplied with the NPSK kit is not suitable for connection to your stationary natural gas system for motors that are more than 5 HP. I sent them a question to find out what type of hose should be used for the connection … will update this thread when they supply the answer.

NOTE: Some items that are current on sale end in shortly, so if you're thinking about doing this conversion, you might want to go check it out soon.

OK, so I asked this:

"I just purchased a snorkel-type conversion kit for my Coleman generator (with a HM100 Tecumseh 10HP motor) from you folks. I would like to power the generator with portable propane tanks as well as from natural gas at my home.

This NPSK-12 kit appears to be for connection to a propane tank, but I noticed that it was stated: "The hose in this kit cannot be used to make the final connection to the stationary Natural Gas system for engines over 5hp."

Being that my motor is 10 HP, what type of hose will I need to connect to the natural gas nipple?

Thanks … "

The NPSK is not suitable for natural gas. If you are within 10 feet from the meter you can use a 1/2" line but you would not want to use any less than 1/2"

I visited their web site and checked out their technical forum. Some posters were having problems with generators starting and/or running smooth on natural gas. From reading the techs' answers, it appears that most of those problems were caused by an inadequate supply of natural gas.

Then I checked out the Natural Gas Pipe Line Sizing Chart

Depending on where on your property you plan to place your generator, you may need to modify your gas line plumbing to provide ample flow of natural gas to the motor (especially without starving your existing gas appliances).

I highly recommend reading and comprehending the information contained in the document - it will save you a lot of grief ...

Thanks for doing all the leg work on this. I'm really hopeful the natural gas option works out!
