After a year of making dx contacts and the twice a week local rag chew, I find myself enjoying listening more then communicating. I use a uniden Madison on SSB and an fs 2340 on AM. The Sonar actually recives very nice for a CB radio. The Madison also receives nicely but not as good as the fs 2340. At $159 and a few more bucks for the 12 volt wall wart, is an external DSP speaker like the BHI mk2-3 worth it? A splitter is also available and for another $15 I could listen to the 2340 through the DSP speaker also. Is this worth the cabbage? Will it really work and make the recive on my Madison that much enjoyable to listen too? Thanks

If your rig doesn't have built in DSP then yes. Even on the lower settings it removes the harsh hiss you get on SSB which makes it easier to listen to for extended periods. At the higher settings it produces audio which can sound warbly with lots of artefacting but its definitely worth running all the time in the first or second setting.
