Need some expertize opinion

No RMS. :sneaky:

I bought one today.

Reminds me of the good ole days, when we were kids and wanting boom boxed for stereos. We never paid much attention to PMPO figures, but more RMS. LOL

Can't remember, what radio are you going to run with this 500v?

I think there should be a different faceplate for the amps shipped south of the border. The red white and green buttons match the Mexican flag. Is it a coincidence?

Sounds like a plan! I think a vinyl wrap would be in order.

On a slightly different subject, any reason why these Tejas Star amps still look like something designed in the 1960s? All it needs is some fake wood on it.

Now were talking. You could sand the lid smooth and cover it with wood grain cabinet paper.

I don't get that 1960's feeling from tx star. I think of the green wrinkled finish that heathkit used.

I thought I would use the variable on the radio backed down and the amp max out?

Run the 500v with the green button out (not lit up), this will bypass the variable pot completely and the amp will run wide open. Then you can somewhat control the output with the variable on the radio.

On AM once you have a 70-90 watt dead key out from the amp see what your peak power is, probably be 350-400. You should be good to go. If your amp has Toshiba finals then 100-125 swinging 450-500 could happen easy with a 955 driving it.

On SSB once your radio is doing 25-30 watts it should drive a 500v quite well and you should not need to hit it any harder. Last 500v I had would hit 450+ watts on SSB with only 18-20 watts PEP input. You will have to just mess with it and see how a new one responds.
