This is the extended transmit mod for the new Kenwood TS-590S. All you have to do is open up the rig and find resistor R900 and remove it. The location of the resistor is shown in the attached pic.

This mod worked perfect.

NOTE: The way I removed the resistor was by taking a small pair of diagonal cutters.

Position the cutter across the center of the resistor.

NOT to deep....DON'T touch the board !

Just lightly squeeze the cutters.

The resistor will break like glass !

I just flipped the radio over blew out the tiny particles.

Reassemble and reset the radio.

With this method:

NO damage....NO heat....NO damage to the pads or board.

I was told the MARS Mod had been done on my rig. I still don't have transmit capabilities between 30 and 32 MHz. Verified the resisitor is gone and did a reset. Still will not transmit above 30 MHz. Thanks in advance for any help.

That's normal. My 440/140's did the same.

I am wanting to hook up a 2 meter transverter, but unless I can open up between 30 and 32 I will be missing part of the 2 meter band, any ideas?

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
