Add a modulation meter Cobra 148 or Grant XL

Is the modulation/rf pwr/swr meter in the unit broken? They make inline unites too. Why do you want to do this? R you just board? Just wondering? My one son is legally blind without his glasses so I can see how some might want a larger display/ I am not one that likes to watch the pretty needle bound around so it would be wasted on me. To be honest I would probably get a Dosey Meter if I wanted to have a large modulation meter to look at and they go inline with the feed line and have other functions as well. They are relative after all not at all absolute. R you doing hifi, direct inject or something. similar?

My Grant XL is not modified, but yes the meter would just be something to look at.
I had the idea of turning my Grant XL into a base station, with a dedicated/built-in mod meter; but never got around to it.

I was just wondering why you wanted to do it. Sometimes people climb a mountain just because it is there and other times it is because it is the only way to get to the other side! LOL

I have to admit that while I have never owned a Galaxy Radio and likely never will I always thought their large meter was a good idea. ALso if I did not already own a decent SWR/Power Cross needle meter the Large MFJ meter likewise makes sense. I am 44 now and used to have crazy insane eyesight but now one eye is 20/40 and not going to get any better as I age so I can understand wanting a biger meter.

When you said modulation meter I was not thinking about a separate modulation meter in my mind I was thinking that you wanted to add a Super Sized multipurpose modulation/swr/rf pwr meter. Now I understand. The Madison had that to right separate meters instead on one meter and a switch for different readings?

It is okay OneLastTime, I didn't get too offended! At first I was thinking "what is wrong w/ the one in the radio??" what one, in the radio!

My idea was to make the Grant XL have more meters and knobs than a Dak!
But I never got to making the radio into a base station.

I think one could still use the stock meter and just change the function with a multi-switch. Or a stand-alone meter who's only purpose was Modulation reading, that would be cool too.

I don't have a practical use beyond having something to watch for an indication of audio, that way I can immediately see if i'm having mic issues.

I’m sure you already knew this but all it is , is a detector circuit. Most time it’s picked off the darlington and adjusted for 100% mod. Can be added to any radio, regardless of the radio.
