I had one of these a long time ago. I have a big ass recliner that sits beside my desk. It's easier (comfortable) for me to just use a hand mic. I don't care for headsets and I don't like VOX. I do have a nice collection of desk mics, though.

Anyhow, I noticed they are making this mic again. The price ain't bad and I already have an 8 pin Foster adapter, so I bought me one. Looking at the picture of it, I was worried that it looked bigger than the one I had before. It came today and I am very pleased with the fit, finish and feel. It's on the smaller size for a typical clamshell mic. The coiled cord is soft and stretchy, just the way I like it.

Mine has the ICOM element and I'm currently using it with my IC-9100. I cruised around the HF bands and was able to get decent audio reports from it. 10 meter and VHF FM were favorable, too.

I like it very much.

Get ya' one.

nice, I have one of the older heil icom hand mics(looks just like yours), but came with the icom 8 pin connector on it, got it at a hamfest new in the box for like $15,, works good , it does have a different tone than most other mics I use , but I can adjust tx bass and treble in the ic-7410 menu and make it sound very natural.

I would have preferred it to have an 8 pin to avoid using the adapter. Might put one on it, though.

Does yours have the grill on top of he mic? I can't remember if my old one did or not.

Heil used to make that style mic in three different flavors...Icom, Yaesu and Kenwood (with the appropriate letter following the HMM designation, i.e. HMM-Y for Yaesu).
I have had two of the Yaesu mics over the years, and they had two mic elements in them, with a switch on the rear of the mic housing. One position was labeled “Full”, the other “DX”, as the mic had two elements in it, and thats why it had the grill on the top of the mic as well (I recall that was for the DX element).
Heil made (maybe still does?) different mic elements for ragchewing and DXing, one had a wider bandwidth while the DX one was fairly narrow and accentuated the high end so your voice could cut through the pile ups.Of course, the Icom version had the electret element, to be compatible with Icom radios.

Heil claims the grill on top is to help eliminate the hollow sound. I remember the the ones with switch on back.
where do i find 1 of the mics you speak of to fit my 7250?
