Good afternoon everyone,

This is my first post so I hope it finds you all well. Figured I would start off my introduction with something that everyone likes to look at. Pictures! Here is my current setup and seems to be doing me quiet well.

RCI-2970N3
ASTATIC 636L
West Mountain Radio CLRspkr
Wilson 1000 Trunk mount
Also not seen or hard to see is one of the big RAM mounts and a Workman DXX bracket.

So far this setup works good. I'm out here on the Gold Coast with a long drive into LA for work so the reason for the commuter car. I know it aint pretty but shes reliable. I know the trunk mount antennas are a point of contention for most people and the SWR isn't perfect at 1:1.4 across the band. But Ill take it for convenience sake. The SWRs where a little bit higher before I bonded the trunk lid to the rear deck. I do like being able to get a cheeseburger without having to park it. I have talked out as far as Georgia with this setup.

Thank you for looking Guys,

Grey Ghost

Welcome!
Looks great! I always liked the gen2 2950dx with the green on black displays opposed to the black on green and black on orange. If i remember right that was the first change to the display besides color. I definitely like the blue on black also.

You've done a nice and tidy job putting that system together. If it works well for you then that's all that matters. That makes a commute pleasurable

Were that me In that little scooter, I’d be stirring up the truck drivers in a helluva commotion some mornings.

Do it right and it’s better than givin’ ‘em caffeine injections.

Drivers now pissed (alert).

Back-assward drill sarge effect: “Un-F this roadway, NOW!”

Woulda been handy runnin’ iced-over Interstate thru Amarillo last week.

I remember Brother Rubber the Big Fat Trucker who would transmit on 19 through the I94 corridor in Montana in the early 1990's. Great troll who would keep the drivers awake and pissed off for hundreds of miles of straight black roads all night long. Drivers knew it wasnt serious but a service to help keep them awake.

Nope. I have heard them before though. I didn't care for the fidelity too much

That AM receive was the reason I went with that speaker. It really knocks the harshness outta that hiss. I don’t usually run the DSP all the way on as it sounds like you are listening to a radio inside a sea shell. Gotta tell you, it helps with listeners fatigue if you like to have your radio on the whole time you are in the mobile.

I notice too that when the noise blankers are on thats when it hisses really bad on am. ssb not at all really.

With the DSP filtering on the speaker I have noticed the NB/ABL doesn’t do much if I toggle it after filtering with the speaker. I am assuming that is due to the fact that the noise is being filtered digitally, so those features are not “needed”. That being said, I do leave them on anyways. If you can get your hands on one or any speaker with DSP even just to check it out I would recommend it. As always, YMMV.

Mines been turned “on” for more than six years.
AM/SSB radios while mobile.

As necessary to operation (now) as the radio itself.

I keep mine from 10-12 (clockface) and adjust RF Gain and Squelch to suit (usually back those off some).

In rural areas or at night I can run them wide-open.

On AM one will listen to conversations occurring of which he wasn’t otherwise aware.

I don’t own a Ranger (always wanted one), and the noise on AM receive is well-known.

I DO own the West Mountain Radio ClearSpeech DSP Speaker and never leave home without it.
