yes they are worth it, but there are none available at the moment as far as i know.

Mark19960 was the guy who used to make those boards, and a friend told me he might be making more soon.

Plenty available, relatively cheap. If you blow it up and the mod board is still good, you can get another one and put the mod board in that and be up and running fairly quickly.
