In the UK they don't even leave the office... they literally look on a screen and see where you are on a map within a few meters. They have a set of networked monitoring stations.. they may not be able to for all frequencies but definitely for FM pirate broadcasters.

Our 911 systems can ping our phones and get accuracy within 50 ft. It's used to "locate lost or incapacitated persons" or "911 hang-up call where a threat has been reported" NOW....I think this is awesome tech and extremely helpful & useful.... when used for that purpose. My problem is that knowing our agencies, that's NOT the only way they use it. I was a sky cop (Security Police) in the Airforce and know that we will use this tech for less than legitimate/ legal means. The guy who built the all band radio I spoke of earlier, he was a comms tech and he monitored cell traffic (was never told what exactly he was looking for), he (and other unnamed persons  ) listened to his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriends phone calls in a podunk town in TN, this was in 1993, I can only imagine how far we've progressed now. Also, remember that any civi tech released of this nature is a minimum of 10-15 year old military tech and is obsolete for military applications.
