I don't know about this chassis, but I do know the 1n4148 is a small signal diode and not a zener and the band details the cathode (negative) end and not the anode (positive). Good luck.

I understand. I don't know why, but cathode/anode polarity was the hardest thing for me to remember. I finally wrote it on the whiteboard in permanent marker and a year after seeing it daily, it finally stuck.

A mnemonic I just learned for it, "PANIC":
Positive Anode, Negative Is Cathode.

Another one, that's a bit more crude:
The Ass of the Arrow is the Anode.

Obviously these only work for diodes.
