You know how on the FT-101e when you want to tune the radio or an amp, you would switch to CW for a steady carrier
I'm having brain fart on my new to me icom 746 non-pro when I put tit on CW no carrier is produce I would have to use audio or whistle on ssb
There's got to be another way

Rtty. Or put a jumper on a connector and plug it into the key jack.

To answer your CW question, Check to see if the "BREAK IN" feature is on. It should be found in the settings menu in CW mode. This will put the tone into TX but you still may have to plug in a keyer to TX a carrier tone.

There is FULL and SEMI BREAK IN modes and my Icom-7000 HF radio and also has a BREAK IN-OFF selection which I use for calibration of my radio by zero beating the tone with WWV. The off feature also lets you practice CW so you can hear the tone without transmitting.

I also prefer just to use RTTY for tuning, This mode gives a steady carrier with no interference from the microphone. I would suggest this mode also if the CW doesn't work without a key.
