Hi. What type ( class ) of amplifier is this? It has two 2sc2879 Toshiba pills.

How much power should I input ( carrier and PEP ) ?

A friend of mine sells it and I am tempted to buy it. He sell it to me for $ 150. It looks pristine inside.

What should I check before buying it ?

Can It be used on 10 meter also?

A little hard to tell the lass, but I think I see a simple clamping diode AB arrangement. It's that, or a class C based on the 220uH choke is see next to the input xfmr. Typical standard CB radio drive levels. Yes on 10m. It has real Toshiba 2879's, so the price is worth it.

That's a very nice older amplifier. Class AB with some filtering, should do great on SSB. As stated don't overdrive it. If your radio has variable power start with say a 1 watt AM dead key with the amp on Max. See what the dead key is, your shooting for for a dead key out from the amp of 70-80 watts. Turn the RF power on the radio up until you hit 70-80, might be 1-2 watts. I would keep peak swing 20 watts or less just to be safe. On SSB 12-20 watts drive should be plenty. That amp will do right around 300 watts wide open. If your going to run the amp on med or high then the AM dead key out will be less as well as peak power.

With a 10 watt swing on SSB, the Magnum 2000 and the Palomar Skipper easily does 100 watts on Low/150 on Medium/200 on high, and 250 on Max. I kept my AM deadkey at 1.5 watts with an 8 watt sing. I need to check those readings sometime as I only did it while I was on SSB.
