Turner Super Sidekick - VS - Turner Plus Three Mic that's the question ?

I've always used a Sidekick for SSB because of the deeper tone seems to work better for sideband the 3s though are a great all around desk mic. That's my 2 cents
Well you guys would have had a good laugh today seeing my old fumble fingers re-wire my old Turner Plus 3 mic but I Got Er Done. And now comes the learning curve. Looks like I have to turn the mic gain back on the radio but it sounded pretty good on my test radio in the other room. Of coarse after that I was compelled to check the wiring on my Turner Super Side Kick and found that was already wired correct so I tried that out also and that sounded good also. Unfortunately DX was starting to die out so I guess I'll have to wait to get some victims to try them out on. Like they say That's the way the Cookie Crumbles !
Well I'll be dipped! You are correct, sir. I looked up the instructions online. I've had one of these mics for years, and had been told a long time ago that it adjusted the brightness... sorry for passing along bad information.

The turner Plus 3 Plus 3 B and CS-1 Custom special are all the same preamp with compression workes great for side band and am .. The Super Sidekick while was marked bas a sideband mic dosent have compression like the plus 3. If ran both.. On a late nite chat over 100 miles strait shot with just audio no carrier the plus 3 made the trip the super sidekick or D104 tup9 stand had trouble they heard the plus 3B no problem.. Just my experience
I've used both for close to 50 years. My old 23 channel Realistic Navaho sounded fantastic with a Turner +3. I kept the +3 when I upgraded to a TRC448 SSB mobile, which I used as a base. Today, I have a +3 base mic wired for when I use 40 channel walkie talkies as base units. A second one is wired for my inventory of old Realistic/Radio Shack base and mobile units.
The TRC 490 SSB base I bought in 1982 still works. So does the Super Side Kick I bought for it. A second Super Side Kick was wired for a Johnson 4740 SSB mobile that I used as a base.
Every single +3 and every single Super Side Kick I have ever used has sounded excellent. That they are still doing their thing 40-50 years after I bought them tells you something about their quality.
You can't go wrong with either.

Can you explain what you mean by " with just audio no carrier"? I assume your referring to SSB, but not sure. Thanks.
Dumb idea: Connect up a DVM as an ammeter inline with the 9V battery and see if there's a draw when the mic isn't keyed. If it is, check the PTT switch to make sure one of the contacts isn't bent a little too far and making contact when it shouldn't be. I'm assuming you've already looked at the PTT switch wiring and it has a clean bill of health.
Other than that you're hunting for shorts, which is a whole different challenge.
Yes the gentleman nin was talking to was over 130 miles away I had no meter reading on him at all all I had was audio coming through.. Then meter vibrated a bit when he talked but never moved off zero.. Hope this explains it. And it was on am not sideband.. On my tram D42
