My pyramid 52kx took a dump on me so I got a hold of 2 HP server supplies and put them in it's case. Now I have a rock solid 200 amp supply that will handle just about anything that I would throw at it.
If I had to guess I'd say the capacitor took a dump on the board in spectacular fashion.
I would test the transistor so see if it survived and replace what died.
It's hard to say if there was any external cause, or if the cap just decided that it was it's time.
You're never going to find a rectangular plug for that/ They added the angles to them because idiots were still forcing them on backwards and blowing the protection diodes in the radios.
The newer plugs work just fine. You don't anything special to make it run.
I forgot to add that I have 4Ga wire on mine as well. That was probably the best upgrade that I have done to the amp. It had the fan on it when I got it.
Here's what I'm gonna tell you, and your mileage may vary.
I have owned my 667V (TWO THIRDS KILOWATT) since 1996... almost 30 years. I have driven it with primarily export radios with either dual finals (bi-polar and mosfet) or an MRF477 for the final. I don't think I've swung more than 35...
What I have done in the past is to replace VR10 with some wires and a 5K potentiometer mounted where you like to control the dead key, and also swap R196 and R228 with each other. That allows a much lower dead key and will keep the swing.
