I was actually thinking of turning it down since it's set to 3.5W to feed the stinger board yielding 35-40W but the high drive linear can achieve max output with 25W and 35W max input and I don't want to overdrive it so I'll need to turn the power down to 2.5W which will hopefully get me 25-30W...
Oh yea, definitely! I was thinking if I'm gonna drill it would probably be right between the two roof braces as can be seen below, the middle one with text and the one behind it since they're closer together but then the antenna would be more towards the back of the vehicle as opposed to the...
Thanks, that bracket is actually part of the antenna as can be seen here:
It's connected to the mast using those 3 clamps and is making a good connection with the material. I don't think I have any issues with grounding as everything has been continuity tested when fully connected with the...
Yeah, that it doesn't work!
I've always read that an antenna should be placed dead center on roof of a vehicle so the radiation pattern is as even as possible and also because it's the highest point. Makes sense. What if the vehicle has a sun roof? Where should the antenna be placed then...
Yep, I have a 6-gauge bare copper wire from the base of the antenna mast running to a pair of 8-foot ground rods on the same side of the house about 10 feet apart, then running to the ground rod below the power meter at the back of the house. I ran continuity testing on all of it and it's all good.
I love that PDF Redbeard, thanks again for posting it, very good info and discusses lots of misconceptions regarding antennas and SWR. I have a Sirio 2016 base antenna that's aluminum and is 18-feet tall, placed on top of a 25-foot telescoping mast, and it has 16 radials. It had good reviews...
Roger that! Thanks for the pointers. Like you pointed out it's no use running at max power since, in my experience, after about 150W there is little difference so max is always on level 2 when the linear is on, and I set it back down to that after making sure SWR was as low as possible at the...
I just got one but instead of 6 radials this one has 8 so it's gotta be better! All the kidding aside, I like experimenting with antennas so I don't consider it a waste, even if it doesn't work as advertised.
This morning I quickly slapped on the Wilson short whip on Wilson 1000 base without tuning the whip at all. It's sent 39" tall from the factory and probably needs a couple of inches cut to tune for lowest SWR mid-band. Anyway, I just wanted to see how it handled high power, I was able to get...
Oh yea, I wouldn't have the patience nor the finesse to tune it that way! Luckily both mine are Firestik II with tunable tips so i just remove the rubber cap and screw it up or down to tune then put the cap back on to test the result.
