Dove in a little deeper.
It's only the receive audio that cuts out, watching the meter it continues to receive, and some audio can be heard with volume all the way up.
Turning the radio off and back on while still in LSB brings back the LSB receive audio and I can rag chew until I change modes...
I would think the heat to be an issue if my 980 didn't do the exact same thing (albeit without losing the receive on LSB)
Edit:// my Bill FCC gets nice 'n toasty sandbagging too.
Once the radio is warmed up (and I've noticed these new style radios get HOT just sitting there sandbagging, it's the regulator chips that do) it will not receive on LSB.
Starts off as a delay going into LSB, then it won't receive until you key/unkey the mic, then it just won't receive at all...
The guy in the CB shop at the Petro in Weatherford, TX thinks people who use antenna analyzers are idiots, and that the correct way to do it is to use an inline SWR meter, because that way you're measuring with the radio in-system. Taking out the radio is strictly forbidden when measuring and...
And of course Palomar is the only company currently selling matched sets, should you want to install one in something that has a single bias control for multiple transistors (cough, hack, 98VHP, cough)
BBI's video about it shows it on a scope.
It looks absolutely horrific. But to his credit, he also says the radio is never going to go on the air toward the beginning of the video, it's strictly a bench radio, and he got it so he can emulate several different radios with one unit instead of...
That's my point. OP is running a KL 203 amp, they do 100-120 depending on setup. he should be able to beat what I did with my Stryker.
The PC 122 does 5 watts average.
10 miles with a 980SSB driving a KL203? You're doing something wrong. I can reach out at least that far on AM with a barefoot PC 122 in a Freightliner Cascadia. I did 26 miles with a barefoot Stryker 955, same truck.
With over 100 watts, if I wasn't reaching out 30+, I'd be pretty ticked off.
Yeah, on stuff I own and don't intend to sell, I couldn't give a rat's patootie about what it is or isn't worth. My hobbies are not businesses and I don't approach them with a business sense. they are for my enjoyment and you can't put a price on that.
Anyway, the last time I used that radio, I...
