    Fulcomm 2303 modifications

I'm sure the techs knows that. They add a digital filter of sorts (way beyond my level of understanding!) to clean up the DDS thing. No noise or splatter etc audible to my ears on the Hygain, and they show it's clean with a spectrum analyzer screenshot. An Ares china SSB radio is way...

    Fulcomm 2303 modifications

Plan is NB down = 10Kc shifter to get the A channels, PA down to give 21-40 on dial positions 1 to 20 (i.e. adds 20 channels), and both down to give 27.415 to 27.605, this will let me get on 555 upper when the overseas skip is running. They did similar to my Hy gain V and it works awesome...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

Short answer: LOL Sorry, long gone. Long answer: Brief history of DSE / Tandy (Radio Shack) in Australia: Mid 1970's: Opened up a few stores in larger cities like Sydney. Sold mostly car radio stuff. Late 1970's to late 1980's: Expanded throughout the whole country, most medium sized...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

PLL chip and the rest of the electronics are identical. The only difference between the old Oz 18 and the equivalent 40 channel American radio is the channel switch itself. When 40 channels was legalized here, you could buy replacement 40 channel switches for most brands and fit them in...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

Yes, South Pacific Radio sold the how to book, the blue one with the skull and radio tower in the front. They also sold the thumbwheels both direct to end users by mail order, and in bulk to other CB shops along with a copy of the book so their technicians could install them.

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

Here's the Oz version. White channel numbers are the Oz 18 channel scheme, blue ones are the equivalent channel on a 23 channels set. Red is emergency use only. There are no blue numbers for Oz 7 and 16, these were 27.095 and 27.195 respectively. No 23/40 channel equivalent channel...

    Sams PhotoFacts Collection

Hi Dan, Thank-you for your efforts in scanning all these old radio books! Do you have SAMS CB-139 in the collection? Need info on a rare radio, a Fulcom SSB 23 channel, that is in Sams 139. I've got one of these radios in great condition, our tech asked me if I could get any info on it...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

The most common mail order source back in the day was a place called "South Pacific Radio", long defunct, they advertised in the Oz CB magazines at the time. Pic of front cover of their book and their advertisement for the thumbwheel conversions attached. Unfortunately, I don't have the...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

Much later here in Oz. Up to 1976, 23 channels but only 16 of them could be legally used. 1977 to 1983 was 18 channels corresponding to roughly 5 to 22 on the 23 channel system, skipping the ones you couldn't use on the 23 channel sets (i.e. no channel 10 equivalent), but including 27.095...

Courier Spartan 40 channel ssb with a channel dial mod???

They are "thumbwheel" switches, a very common mod here in Oz back in the early 80's. They still turn up on Ebay Oz site from time to time. Spartans, Gladiators, Cobra 138's, Realistic 449, and other brands that used the same PLL chip in their SSB radios. The mod required one other switch...

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

I installed it myself with the techs instructions. Dropped right in. I'm only a sparky, not a tech, so she kept the instructions basic for me. I was trying to avoid shipping a quite large box of 40+ year old electronics to them (2500 miles each way!) to save some $ if I could, and to prevent...

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

The Microchipz VCO11 worked fine for me, as mentioned in my first post in this thread. Radio is still working great 10 months later, spoke to the owner this morning on the local call channel (35 lower). So the Microchipz one will work in the Superbase. If there are other issues (bad caps, bad...

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

Sorry for the delayed replay, wanted to ask out tech why they may had had trouble. The RF board has pins that connect one side of the board to the other and these are a common source of trouble. It's possible that one or more of those was disturbed when they replaced the VCO. I can only speak...

What is so special about a GE superbase anyway?

Had a VCO on a Superbase die here. Radio was recapped and worked great for a few years, then one morning no transmit or receive when it was turned on. After about a hour it came good but 5 minutes later died again. TP1 voltage stuck on 5.4v and moving the VCO screw made faint sounds in the...
