My 5' Firestik has never failed me making contacts in the mobile...... Many times its was better than the base on skip from 500-1000 miles. Im assuming the shorter skip preferred the higher takeoff angles?

Whats your radio setup like? I have a KL503 it works ok, the wattage is nowhere close to advertised. If I remember correctly is was a 150 watts max for keeping the waveform linear. I also did some mods, it wouldn't work on SSB out of the box.

Just think if everyone ran FM you wont have people on channel 6 wiping out the whole band!

Just feed it with ladder line and forget about it! 4 Bands can get tricky, 3 seems to be ok.

+1 for good grounding. I had one a with a bad transformer bite me, It shorted to the case. Lesson learned.....

I dont live in a park but my neighbors are just as close. I use a inverted V 140' doublet (max length i can fit), the ends are tied to the neighbors fence. I also have power lines in my back yard, where is your transformer? Most parks are all low voltage insulated wire..... I would recommend...

Try adding a 3' jumper to the length of your antenna coax and see of it changes. Also have you tied tuning and or checking the swr and the antenna feed point? My Imax isnt a perfect match either.....
