Don’t be sorry I’m appreciative of all the great help I did get from you. I was about to throw In The towel until I discovered this website and started getting guidance and gave me the motivation to keep going. Yes it was cool he let me give it a shot since he knows I’m still learning. That was...
Well I just found out the owner of the radio wants to get his radio back to take to a shop since he doesn’t want to use his backup radio anymore. It looks like unfortunately I won’t be able to see this one through to find the problem. This website is awesome and I appreciate the time and help...
The traces are correct, D71 is in the correct direction based off of the symbol on the board and looking at another radio. I also removed the 3 series 4148 diodes I previously added for D71 and replaced them with a factory 2 diode assembly from another galaxy. It is still intermittent keying...
I'm going to reroute the anode of d71 to the base next and get back with you. The reason that happened in the first place is because the trace lifted and I had to add a little jumper lead to repair it. But when I did I must have soldered it to the wrong leg of the transistor on the board. The...
I just realized that when previously repairing a trace in this area I attached the positive lead of d71 to the collector instead of the base of q33 this whole time! So do you think that may be the problem and I should fix that before reversing d71?
Checked again, the collector trace with q33 removed, which is the same trace as the positive end of d71, is still about 6.6 volts, and I just decided to also check the negative end and is a steady 8.6 volts. and another reminder i have previously replaced the 2 series factory diodes with 3...
Okay, the last 10 minutes it has been cleanly switching to only red like normal again but when it does intermittently act up it will still light up mainly green but you can see a little red on simultaneously through the green light a little.
I just noticed when I push around on q31 it seems to affect the red light and make it work a little. It has been replaced with a c1815 from Amazon that Google said was a newer substitute. The traces are also not in great shape in that area from the traces lifting and having to repair some of...
I just double checked and even when the light only partially turns red or not at all it still drops to 2.66 everytime. I can still hear the static pop or whatever from the speaker when it switches from rx to tx. The light just doesn’t come on red all the way most of the time now.
You're right, since my last reply I've been rechecking and now it doesn't want to switch to red all the way and sometimes it won't switch at all. one minute it will work than the next minute it wont. but the voltage still drops to 2.66 every time. I've tried a different mic, pushing around ic7...
I have been sitting here since my last reply and have left the radio on and I tried keying up the radio again for the hell of it and now all of a sudden it keys up, the light switches to all red, and pin 7 drops to 2.66 volts when keyed. I dont know if poking around the pins with the meter lead...
The container says it is general use flux paste it does not say specifically for plumbing or electrical. And no, the pin 7 voltage does not change when keying up. Pin 6 after checking it again does fluctuate a little bit more than originally posted. Slowly anywhere from 2 to 2.45v. Edit: the...
Alright I haven't had much time this past week but after working on it tonight I found that several issues went away just from more thoroughly cleaning the circuit board traces with alcohol and a toothbrush instead of the crc spray cleaner. I have some new voltages and thought this would be a...
Between the end of jp81 and the end of the other short jumper next to it where the 2 red lines are drawn. With a pick it feels like it actually started to burn a small pinhole into the board between the traces but not all the way through. After it happened I noticed it was a little dirty around...
