Motor Mouth
As a kid I loved electronics and got into citizen band radios in a small Bay Area town.. there I was able to polish my skills at tuning my antenna (more time than money)
Talking in the Bay Area was so different then than it is nowadays up here. I live now in the foothills so the topography plays the largest roll in the difference, the other is population per capita…
35 years later I dig out my antenna and place it on the roof of my first owned home where my wife decides to surprise me with a brand new CB, never had one of those before… She says “what have I started” I say you only opened the flu of a long smoldering fire my love… watch me burn lol
Here in the foothills there are way more DX contacts and next to zero locals… even the locals I do know of I don’t hear but I do however hear the rest of the country as well as other countries South America, Australia, UK, and even heard Indonesia in there once… and although they don’t hear me yet they will!! I’ve just picked up my tower to hold a homemade “serio” type two element beam with my trusty old fifty year old 5/8 wave ground plane on top!!
Now I can’t wait to get my office set up so I can start to fix up some of these old radios I’ve been carrying around for years!!! Ok a couple of my faves… cobra 2000, SBE console V, and my wife’s uncles old RCI 2950… some of my others are the JCPenney base station I got started on and the 2cobra 148GTL’s. My soon to come projects box contains a few cobra 21X radios (these will be my hot rods) everyone has to have at least one radio that seriously makes noise ya know!! But for now I’m in love with my new president McKinley!!! So mush so I bought another for the van!!
