I found the diagram for ACOM 1011 (grid driven 2x 4cx250). It works on 1.8 to 30MHz. The diagrams pi network is legible and shows 790-920pF on Load for 80m for my 2 tubes. My Tune values need another 100pF for 80.
I'd never seen a Pride amp in-person or used on 80m but the max Load C of...
The Slinky demo reminds me of Physics class where Slinky's were used to show that different waves pass through each other.
Those guys had fun making that video. How did they print that king-size Smith chart laid-out on the Gymnasium floor? The analogy btwn email Spam and Standing Waves...
Got it. My Tetrode project has drained the Brain Trust here over the past few years so, I'm fortunate my membership has not been terminated, lol.
Thanks again for filling-in some of the blanks on the formula and process itself. I will report back but it will take some time. My Tune cap only...
Thank you Brandon. I’m going to make another try this afternoon if possible.
The online calculators wanted values I did not understand and was unable to provide. Your walk thru showed me how to use and apply that formula.
I’ll report end values but it will take time, it is ungodly hot...
Homebrew 4cx300a amp grid driven:
I found a better air variable for my Load cap. Installed and working OK 10-40M but I need to estimate the C values for 80M. New Load cap is another 2 section Johnson, 3kv rated but the smallest section <10pF and both sections equal 205pF. I use a CRL 2500...
New cap delivered yesterday. Removed old one, disassembled and cleaned new one best I could with Q-tips and aluminum cleaner (Noxon green). See how it looks in the morn.
New air Variable Load cap is a 2 section: 7-52 and 13-155pF. Same HV spacing /series for 3kv by Johnson I think. Low...
A few months ago I serviced 2 large window AC units and still have more of the coil cleaner left. It should have occurred to me. Yes, I suspect you're right and it should work well. Thanks
Found a V Air cap on eBay and ordered it. It's looks to be in good condition for it's age but oxidation is evident. What can I use to treat the aluminum metal?
Thanks for the suggestions, all.
I use ziplocks for the specialty and large resistors (NI, ww, >1W, etc) and keep'em in a small box. I'm going to explore the 3-ring binder approach. I've seen Jewelry stored like that.
I need to order another set and I want to keep them organized, easy to access. Suitable for storage as my work area is small. I end up losing too many and they easily disorganized. Anyone try a Loose-leaf binder? What do the Techs here use?
On my MFJ-207 I cannot tune the entire band of either the 40 or 20 meters. I use a small battery-operated Freq counter (plugged into MFJ-207) and the coverage is missing 7.200 to 7.370 and 14.100 to 14.600. Almost mathematical, right? Both the 40 and 20 bands are at the edge of the dial's...
